The Parks & Recreation Department, in conjunction with American Canoe Association Certified Instructors, is sponsoring half-day skills courses for people who want to learn the basics of paddling a kayak.Advanced registration is required. Space is limited.Minimum age to participate is 13. The classes are held at Waterfront Park, Orange Beach. $65.00 per person. All paddling equipment is provided.
Session 1 Saturday, May 31, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Session 2 Saturday, June 28, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Additional classes will be added as the summer permits.
The first Learn to Kayak Course was held Saturday, June 30, 2007 with ten participants. The class was held from 12:30 - 4:30 p.m. Organizers feel this first course was a success and are looking forward to future classes. Due to the heat and possible afternoon wind, the next classes will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Pictures below are from first class.
